Vice President - Operations

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the primary function of the Vice President – Operations is to assist the Company’s COO in monitoring performance, reporting to executive management on results of operations and status of initiatives and driving process improvements, automation and standardization throughout the organization.

The VP Operations position will provide key support in HCP’s objective of building the best operating platform in the sector. The successful candidate will need to have a solid understanding of the healthcare real estate segment, including operational metrics, processes, and systems across HCP’s business segments and work collaboratively with various groups to develop consistency, appropriate metrics and reporting procedures. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Chief Operating Officer to drive operational performance against established goals and initiatives:
    • Work with Strategic Planning group to establish operational objectives for AOP and long-term plan consistent with the Company’s strategic objectives
    • Establish appropriate reporting for executive team that clearly outlines operational performance against key objectives (examples: monthly reporting, ‘Flash’ reports, dashboards, etc.)
    • Identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses or drive rates to improve performance and the long term value of each of our assets
    • Work with Development / Capex team and business units to identify opportunities to profitably deploy capital to improve earnings growth and value of assets across HCP
    • Coordinate consistency of reporting and performance management across Office Vertical (MOB and Life Science) and Senior Housing
    • Assist with preparation of senior management and board presentations
  • Team with Strategic Planning group on analysis of market trends, preferred markets, competitor/peer analysis and benchmarking to drive above average performance
  • Work with business segments and Strategic Planning group to perform bi-annual asset reviews to develop strategic long-range plans for each asset
  • Partner with business segments to promote portfolio management tools and analytical processes to optimize portfolio and asset management decision-making. Identify and implement best practices and consistencies across the Company
  • Work with IT/Systems and business segments to identify opportunities to improve productivity of operational staff by improving processes and automation, utilizing current tools as much as possible (such as BPC, Saleforce.com, M-Files and existing “IQ” applications); work collaboratively with business segment teams and IT / Systems personal  to establish standardization of business practices, policies and procedures, and operational performance management across HCP

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Finance, Real Estate or related field; MBA preferred, but not required
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in real estate operations and/or real estate finance/planning
  • Solid understanding of each business segment’s metrics and financials
  • Experience and ability to identify opportunities to increase value of assets across each business segment through operational excellence
  • Strong aptitude for adopting and leveraging technology and tools to improve efficiencies and ease of reporting and managing operational performance
  • Displays a wide degree of creativity and latitude in the performance of the role
  • Ability to work independently to achieve corporate goals set by the senior leadership team
  • Aptitude to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
